What is VIPRE?
VIPRE is the end of antivirus software as you know it.
Is your antivirus program slowing down your PC? Ditch your old antivirus software for high-performance, next-gen antivirus + antispyware that IS NOT a resource hog.
PC Magazine's security expert Neil Rubenking just gave VIPRE an excellent review with 4 STARS and said: "As its name indicates, Sunbelt Software's VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware 3.1 is designed to handle all kinds of malicious software, and it does a very thorough job." Robert Vamosi's CNET review of VIPRE said: "7.8 out of 10: Very Good. VIPRE combines antivirus and antispyware technology in a fast and light application that also includes a worthy set of security tools." But spend a minute to find out what VIPRE can do for a home PC with old-style antivirus on it. Read this ZDNet review that starts out with: "Sunbelt Software's VIPRE - I've finally found an antivirus package that delivers the goods. Next, in a follow-up post he does a performance shoot-out and concludes: "Sunbelt Software's claim that VIPRE doesn't hog system resources and doesn't slow down a PC isn't just marketing hyperbole but is actually true."
High-performance, next-generation antivirus + antispyware software
VIPRE combines antivirus, antispyware, anti-rootkit and other technologies into a seamless, tightly-integrated product. Built with next-generation technology, VIPRE (Virus Intrusion Protection Remediation Engine) gives you powerful antivirus and antispyware software in-one that protects you against today's highly complex malware threats including viruses, adware, spyware and rootkits, without hogging your PC resources like many traditional antivirus products.
Checkmark Anti-Virus Certified
VIPRE is Checkmark Anti-Virus Desktop certified by West Coast Labs and will receive additional certifications through other certifying bodies in the coming months.
Does not slow down your PC!
User surveys show the biggest frustration with existing antivirus solutions is bloat and high resource usage. VIPRE's design is low on system resources and optimizes your overall PC user experience, keeping notification pop-ups and warnings to a minimum.
Still use Sunbelt's CounterSpy?
Then compare the features of CounterSpy with VIPRE which includes CounterSpy's award-winning Active Protection technology. You can continue using CounterSpy (new versions will be made available), but if you want to save family budget, get rid of your old, resource-hungry antivirus program! Want to speed up your PC and save money? Ditch your bloated antivirus and get VIPRE now. It is available as an upgrade to CounterSpy for just $9.95.
Real-time monitoring with Active Protection™
VIPRE's Active Protection delivers real time monitoring and protection against known and unknown malware threats. Active Protection works inside the Windows kernel (the core of the operating system), watching for malware and stopping it before it has a chance to execute on your system.
Full protection against email-borne threats
VIPRE includes comprehensive protection against email viruses, with direct support for Outlook, Outlook Express and Windows Mail; and support for any email program that uses POP3 and SMTP.
Advantages of VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware
- High-performance threat protection with low impact on system resources
- Scans email for malware threats
- Kernel-level Active Protection guards you 24/7
- Advanced anti-rootkit technologies
- Small, regular definition updates greatly reduce update downloading time
- VIPRE has three extra bonus tools: a history cleaner, a secure file eraser, and the PC Explorer for advanced users.
Find Out How Bad Old-style Antivirus Resource Usage Really Is!
Old-style antivirus products have stacked layer upon layer of engines, and created bloatware in the process. They slow down your PC, have slow scan times and cause performance problems. See VIPRE's low impact on system resources compared to the competition. Click the chart to the right to enlarge.
Why not get a world-class 2-way firewall at the same time?
You know you need weapons-grade PC security program with Internet crime rates skyrocketing. The Windows firewall is worse than useless; it gives you a false sense of security. Award-winning Sunbelt Personal Firewall works great with VIPRE. Computer Shopper in the U.K. gave it their Budget Buy Award with: "A seriously good firewall for the money." Firewall expert Scot Finnie said: "ZoneAlarm Free and Sunbelt Personal Firewall - the two firewalls I've pointed to in the past as having the best user interfaces in this field".
New! Unlimited Home Site License
Uniquely, VIPRE is the first security product to provide a "home site license". For an annual subscription price of $49.95, all the PCs in your house can be protected with a single site license. A single user annual subscription is $29.95. All annual subscriptions include one year of threat definition updates, software upgrades, and live US-based toll-free technical support. Get VIPRE and Sunbelt Personal Firewall together and there's only one toll-free number to call for all your PC security tech support.

VIPRE Frequently Asked Questions
+ It looks like I have performance problems after installing. What to do?
If you are running another antivirus or security product with active protection enabled, DO NOT enable VIPRE's Active Protection. Doing so may result in significant performance issues.
+ What is VIPRE?
VIPRE is next-generation antivirus + antispyware in-one. We built a new, fast engine from the ground up for this.
+ Does VIPRE replace my current antivirus like AVG, Norton McAfee and Trend? Do I need to uninstall my old AV?
Yes, it definitely replaces old AV products. Better yet, you get antispyware integrated in the product. Actually, VIPRE is a full anti-malware product that protects you against all malware like rootkits, trojans, bots and more malicious code.
We highly recommend you remove any other AV product from the PC prior to installing VIPRE. The reasoning for this is that "driver level" software used in AV engines tend to conflict with one another resulting in either a tremendously slow system and/or other problems.
+ Isn't it VIPER and you made a typo?
No, it stands for Virus Intrusion Protection Remediation Engine.
+ Does that Home Site License mean that if I have 13 PCs at the house, I'll be covered for ALL of them?
Indeed it does!
+ How do I know you guys really protect me against all these nasties?
Good question. We have been antivirus certified by West Coast Labs, which have tested if VIPRE catches and remediates a set of viruses from the 'WildList' which is a selection of old and prevalent viruses. PC Magazine also just tested VIPRE and found we detected practically everything.
+ I use CounterSpy, do I have to upgrade?
No, we will make new versions of CounterSpy available, but for just $9.95 you now finally have the chance to ditch your old AV resource hog and replace it with VIPRE and get two for the price of one!
+ I ran the upgrade from CounterSpy to VIPRE, but the VIPRE Install is not getting through its setup.
Make sure that CounterSpy is uninstalled. Also, we strongly recommend to turn off (better yet uninstall) other antivirus products that have active protection. After that, re-run the VIPRE install. If that does not do the trick, get in touch with our Support Team.
+ Will my CounterSpy key work in the new VIPRE?
No. After you upgrade, we email you a new key that you need to enter in the VIPRE registration window.
+ I want to use VIPRE together with the Sunbelt Personal Firewall (SPF), can I do that?
Yes. We made SPF aware of VIPRE from SPF build Version: 4.6.1845 and later.
Upgrade to that version of SPF and the two will play nice together.
+ Can I run VIPRE on my 64-bit XP and/or Vista?
Yes, VIPRE runs successfully on all x64 Windows OSes XP SP1 and newer, and will protect these systems. Additional 64-bit functionality that will come in the near future is scanning 64-bit processes or do a Rootkit scan on x64 OSes.
+ When I download a file, is VIPRE checking it for a virus? I’m not sure if Vipre does this or not.
Yes, VIPRE’s Active protection does indeed look at the file as it is being downloaded. VIPRE will compare the file to its definitions and the list of known bad programs. Actual scanning of the file won’t happen until a system scan is run. This two-step process keeps you safe without interfering with the download speeds.

Last week I dumped my old virus protection, upgraded to VIPRE, and all I can say is, "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" :) Judy

Just want to say how happy and glad I am that I decided to upgrade to VIPRE. Easy installation and every thing is so much quicker. Thanks for a really good genuine product that really does do what you claim. Keep up the good work Many Thanks, Brian

I had McAfee ASAP installed on my T60 Thinkpad with a 7200 rpm HDD and it took forever to boot up, and sluggish. After installing VIPRE I now have a laptop that is just as fast as it was without any AV scanner. Great product. I bought 10 seats and would do it again.

Hello Sunbelt, I used ZoneAlarm temporarily for my AV/Anti-Malware protection, after my CounterSpy subscription expired. After downloading and running VIPRE for a trial, it found 5 Trojans/Risks during the trial period. Awesome speed and results! --Paul

I am really satisfied with VIPRE. Works very well on my Vista64 OS and the performance is also very good. Really gives you a safe feeling while surfing the internet. After trying it out, I was totally convinced and bought directly a 2-year subscription. Keep up the good work! Maurice --Netherlands

Works AS ADVERTISED! Great product, keep up the good work. Maybe this will teach McAfee and Norton a thing or two!

I just wanted to say a great big “THANK YOU” for VIPRE! I installed it about three weeks ago with no problems and it’s more than doing its job keeping the “nasties” away. Prior to installing VIPRE I used Norton/Symantec and I had let my subscription lapse. Needless to say, I was plagued with slow performance and higher than usual CPU usage (even for Vista) though I luckily managed to evade any terribly pernicious viruses. VOILA! As soon as VIPRE performed its first full system scan, detecting and trapping all the offending processes and rogue code that had infiltrated my system, no more problems. This is a terrific product. It installs easily and quickly and does everything exactly as advertised. I highly recommend this product. Thanks so much! -- Laura, A very satisfied and happy customer.

This week I upgraded my CounterSpy program to VIPRE and removed my AVG software,on my Vista laptop. I also loaded VIPRE on three other computers running XP,and Norton. I noticed two things right off of the bat. All the computers seemed to start up much faster, and they did not encounter cycle and memory stealing while running, which I noticed using Norton and AVG. So far I’m impress with VIPRE. Enjoy both your XP and Vista news. Keep up the great work. Regards, Dennis

WOW AMAZING!! I was actually able to watch a whole movie on my computer with it not getting stuck or stalling, my other AV/AS would be updating definitions and causing lag on my viewing of dvd's or even online shows and I can actually play my games smoothly!! I love VIPRE I thank you and my CPU memory thanks you.

Used the trial for a week. Trend Micro, Computer Associates, and Windows Defender were finding Cutwail but couldn't get rid of it. VIPRE found it and disposed of it -along with a few other pests that we didn't know were hiding. 3 comps here at home back to expected speeds with 4th (maybe 5th) to come - I'm a happy camper and purchased the site license today. Thanks - this is what everyone has needed for some time. Can you maybe teach MS something about how coding should be done?

I have a custom built PC—core 2 duo(2.20), Vista Home 64bit,4GB ram,320 GB Hitachi HD,Asus 2600 Graphics card, etc.(As you can tell,I’m not one to subscribe to Apple’s philosophy of dictating hardware.)I had been running AVG 8.0 free (because Comcast doesn’t offer a version of MacAfee that runs on Vista 64bit).I downloaded VIPRE(after uninstalling AVG)and couldn’t be happier.I’m running Office 2007 Ultimate(including Outlook, but not on an exchange server).I LOVE the program. Scans are quick and clean. I have several(okay, eight)computers in the house running various hardware and OS’s. When my 15 day trial expires, I have little doubt that I’ll buy the “household” license and install it on all of the other PCs in the house. Put me down for a definite lover of this program. By the way, I’m a subscriber to WXP News and Vista News and love both newsletters. Keep up the great work. Thanks again!-- Joe

I've used Counterspy for about 2 years and upgraded to VIPRE a few days ago. First impressions are very positive. Having uninstalled my previous Symantec virus software my 5 year old Toshiba laptop has been restored to its original operating speed and I have gained over 1GB in HDD space. The user interface is clear and scans and definition downloads take a fraction of the time that I have been used to before. Excellent product. -- Bill

I used CounterSpy for over a year with complete confidence that it would stop spyware. I had not planned to buy the upgrade to VIPRE until I ran the trial for a few days. VIPRE is a great product! My system loads much faster and I have noticed other improvements, such as IE loading instantly now. The interface is simple but sharp and the features within the program are easy to use while providing all the options I might need. I particularly like the history section for monitoring updates and etc. Highly recommend! Charlie

Just like some others here, I had a subscription to a compeditors product. However, I downloaded the trial, was impressed and bought it in spite of the fact that I have 10 months left on the other subscription. I am a speech user, and, for the most part, am having no trouble using VIPRE. However, in the area where you tell it what to scan, my reader is reading the status of the checkboxes but not what's checked or unchecked. Other than that, I am quite happy.

I had used Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite on all 3 of our home PCs (XP). I liked what I read about VIPRE -low load on resources, speed, good reviews. I'd been using CounterSpy for a few years, too. I uninstalled ZoneAlarm, installed VIPRE and SP Firewall. VIPRE caused me a bit of stress and worry but ONLY BECAUSE IT WAS DOING A GOOD JOB. The other products had failed to find Spectorsoft, a Cadillac of 'spyware' installed on my teen's PC, but VIPRE found it right away and I figured out how to 'always allow' my parental eyes. Would highly recommend VIPRE and Sunbelt Personal Firewall to anyone interested. --Chico, USA
